Mid-Weight Technical Designer

Location: Sywell - Northamptonshire


About the role

This is a key role within our technical team, focused on bringing ambitious exhibition and event concepts to life. As a Mid-Weight Technical Designer, you’ll sit at the heart of project delivery and help turn creative ideas into practical, buildable solutions that work in the real world.

You’ll be involved throughout the lifecycle of a project, supporting the transition from concept through to installation. Working closely with project managers, designers, workshops, and external partners, your drawings will play a vital role in ensuring projects are run smoothly, accurately, and to a high standard.

As you grow into the role, you’ll take increasing ownership of your work and contribute to the way projects are shaped, resolved, and delivered. You’ll also have regular opportunities to support UK and international installations, giving you the chance to see your work realised and bought to life on-site.


What you’ll be doing

  • Translating concept visuals into detailed workshop production drawings using 2D and 3D AutoCAD

  • Re-interpreting designs into new layouts, following direction from account handlers or clients

  • Producing submission and approval drawings to support project management teams

  • Running live projects with increasing responsibility and ownership

  • Liaising directly with project managers, contractors, suppliers and clients

  • Coordinating internal workshop teams and external subcontractors

  • Managing third-party manufacturing requirements

  • Producing CNC cutting files for furniture, signage and 3D printing

  • Carrying out surveys and space planning layouts

  • Producing services location plans for venue suppliers

  • Updating and managing project data within the FileMaker coordination database

  • Attending site visits and exhibitions in the UK and internationally, with travel shared fairly and lieu days offered

  • Requirement to travel Internationally


What we’re looking for

A hero in the shaping!

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Designer with a strong foundation in technical detailing and a thoughtful, organised approach to their work. You’ll have 3+ years’ experience of technical detailing within exhibitions, joinery, shopfitting, or retail fit-out, and be comfortable producing accurate, build-ready drawings that support efficient build and installation.

Beyond technical ability, you’ll be a confident communicator who works well with others and be able to collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and clients, as well as help resolve challenges as they arise. You’ll be comfortable managing your workload, adapting in a fast-paced environment, and contributing positively to a supportive, team-led culture.

Software experience

  • AutoCAD 2D / 3D (main tool)

  • Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams)

  • FileMaker database (training provided if required)

  • Excel

  • Adobe Suite (beneficial)

Our interview process

At elevations, our aim is to keep the interview process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, and will consist of the following stages:

  1. Informal call with the Department Head (30-minute video call)

  2. 2nd round - Sywell office visit: in-person meeting with the team and to discuss your experience and fit for the role. (1hr - in-person meeting)

  3. The decision process will take approximately 2 weeks
