Junior Technical Designer

Location: Sywell - Northamptonshire


About the role

As a Junior Technical Designer, you’ll work as part of a supportive, collaborative team, receiving structured training and hands-on guidance from experienced technical designers and project teams. You’ll be involved across different stages of projects. On every touchpoint from drawings and specifications through to build and installation. Helping you gain a clear understanding of how creative ideas are translated into practical, buildable solutions.

Over time, you’ll build confidence in your technical detailing skills, develop an understanding of materials and construction, and begin to take on greater responsibility as your experience grows. It’s a role designed to help you learn, ask questions, and develop at a steady, supported pace within a team that values care, quality, and collaboration.


What you’ll be doing

  • Assisting in the production of workshop production drawings using 2D and 3D AutoCAD

  • Supporting the reworking of existing designs into new layouts under guidance

  • Assisting with submission and approval drawings for venues and organisers

  • Supporting live projects and gradually taking ownership of allocated tasks

  • Coordinating with internal workshop teams and external subcontractors

  • Assisting with supplier coordination and third-party manufacturing

  • Supporting the production of CNC cutting files for furniture, signage and 3D printing

  • Assisting with surveys and space planning layouts

  • Updating and maintaining project information within the FileMaker database

  • Requirement to travel occasionally in the UK and abroad as part of project delivery

  • Occasional site visits in the UK and abroad.


What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who’s curious about how things are designed and built, with a strong desire to develop their technical skills within exhibitions and live events. You’ll have a relevant university, college, or vocational qualification, along with a positive, organised approach to your work.

More importantly, you’ll bring a willingness to learn, ask questions, and work collaboratively with others. You’ll enjoy problem-solving, take pride in doing things properly, and be comfortable working as part of an office-based team where support, communication, and shared responsibility are key.

Software experience

  • AutoCAD 2D / 3D (full training provided)

  • Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams)

  • FileMaker database (full training provided)

  • Excel

  • Adobe Suite (beneficial)

Our interview process

At elevations, our aim is to keep the interview process as straightforward and enjoyable as possible, and will consist of the following stages:

1.        Informal call with the Department Head (30-minute video call)

2.        2nd round - Sywell office visit: in-person meeting with the team and to discuss your experience fit for the role. (1hr - in-person meeting)

3.        The decision process will take approximately 2 weeks
