Wonder Woman 84
It’s 1984 and Diana Prince (played by Gal Gadot) is living a quiet life in Washington until dodgy businessman Maxwell Lord (played Pedro Pascal) threatens the world along with bumbling gemologist Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) . . . even Steve Trevor mysteriously returns but we won’t go into that . . .
Cue the mid-’80s, big hair, legwarmers, spandex and red Porsches . . . thankfully we’re spared a squeaky 80’s soundtrack. Pascal puts in a decent comedic performance, whilst Wiig proves novel casting, conjuring up a real menace when she turns on predatory creeps.
There’s plenty of the usual CGI, with massive action sequences. For me, the touchstone has always been the 1970s Superman – the best superhero film ever. An entertaining mall robbery also nods to unashamedly to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. The climax – a face-off between Diana and Barbara repeats the similar CGI of the first film.
A vibrant and fun adventure packed with all the stuff you’d expect from the DC universe.
The film is available everywhere including Blu Ray & DVD and some streaming services.
