The House of Gucci
One of the stars of The House of Gucci – Jared Leto looks like he’s in a different film, every line is sung which is a just a bit ridiculous. His performance is huge and bloated. The rest of the cast are perfectly serviceable, particularly Lady Gaga, who again proves she is a spectacular actor.
And that sums up the film itself, it’s just ok. The whole thing wants to be like Martin Scorsese’s Casino, with a woman on the edge but sadly it isn’t. Lady Gaga tries her best to keep it going through the long running time. It feels very undramatic, and despite all the goings-on, you don’t shed a tear over anybody. It’s a case-study of a business gone mad; with people you wouldn’t want to know.
Ridley Scott can be a bit hit and miss, and this is certainly not one of his best projects. It’s bloated running time (yawn), and slightly televisual approach make the House of Gucci difficult to take seriously. It seems as if the cast are having more fun than the audience.
The House of Gucci opened last week and is showing everywhere.
